Have you heard of “Wirehead”, aka J.Galen Buckwalter?

He was one of the first 25 participants worldwide to receive a neural implant to research the treatment of spinal cord injury.

Dr Buckwalter was the keynote speaker at the 27th Annual CyberPsychology, CyberTherapy & Social Networking Conference, held in Tempe,Arizona this month.

IDCARE’s founder and Managing Director, Dr David Lacey, also presented on the cyberpsychology of deception. Each day IDCARE responds to community members that are asking themselves why they believed a scammer. It’s been a passion project for IDCARE’s Managing Director.

Dr Lacey says that “in 2017 IDCARE had over a hundred community members a week believing they would be arrested if they didn’t pay the tax office in iTunes cards. Ever since then I’ve been hooked into understanding the science behind the psychology of deception.”

But Dr Lacey did not just attend to share his own insights and engage“cyber-humans”. For the first time ever, the international cyberpsychology conference is coming to the Southern Hemisphere in 2025 and Dr Lacey will be taking the baton to Sydney.

“It’s terrific for Australia to have this international conference in its 28th year on such an important cutting-edge topic that’s of real interest to practice, academia and humanity.”

“To have technologies that are now starting to capture and respond to human thoughts challenges our understanding of privacy and identity. It may not be a challenge we have to address next week, but it’s coming,” says Dr Lacey.

Early opportunities to register your interest to be part of this internationally acclaimed event can be submitted at www.cypsy28.com

This year’s event in Arizona took place from 24-26 September. Next year’s event will take place in Sydney from 14 to 17 July 2025.
