About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader Profiling and Threat Detection, the primary purpose of the role is working within our Canberra based Intelligence Analytics and Assurance team to examine our data repositories,  their administration, and analytical processes and visualisation. This is a casual role, suited to a student, with flexibility to accommodate approximately 24 hours (2-3 days) per week.

IDCARE is an office-based work environment and operates extended business hours Monday to Friday between 7am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 12pm AEST. This position is located within the IDCARE@ANU facility. This is an office based working position and the successful candidate will be required to perform their duties from the Australian National University site.

Positive responsibilities include:

  • Data wrangling and visualisation in accordance with IDCARE production priorities.
  • Advancing IDCARE response testing knowledge base and supporting changes to IDCARE systems and procedures to accommodate testing results.
  • Supporting the production of report preparation in accordance with IDCARE production priorities.
  • Support the development of scripts and code that support quantitative analysis requirements.
  • Work collegiately as part of the technical analysis stream and as a key member of a broader multi-disciplinary work environment.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analysing and interpreting data using a variety of tools and methodologies. Ability to dissect complex problems, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions from various data sources.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to spot nuances and inconsistencies, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks and processes.
  • Critical Thinking: A strong capacity for evaluating information objectively, considering all relevant factors, and drawing well-reasoned conclusions. Proven ability to approach challenges creatively and strategically, providing innovative and effective solutions.
  • Investigative and Inquisitive Mindset: An inherent curiosity and an eagerness to dig deeper into data, systems, or situations, always looking for insights and solutions.
  • Communication Skills (Written): Strong written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely present findings and ideas in reports, emails, and other written formats.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, sharing insights, offering support to colleagues, and contributing to team success.
  • Interest in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT): Demonstrated familiarity with open source intelligence and data gathering techniques, with an enthusiasm for staying up-to-date on new methods and technologies in this field.
